Historic Flags

The Colonial Red Ensign Flag

???Naturally, at first, the colonists used the flags of their homeland. This flag was the navy "Jack" flag. The colonists were proud of it because England used it when it won so many sea battles.

It was flown by British Royal Navy before 1801 before the Act of Union between the rest of the UK and Ireland. The Jack has the crosses of St. George (England) Red on white and St Andrew of Scotland (diagonal white on navy blue). The Irish flag St Patrick (diagonal red on white is not shown.) Our flag is in excess of 200 years old!

Additional information contributed by: Skip James, 1st Panteg (St Mary's), Pontypool, South Wales, UK
